2014 – The Year of Interlude Before Big Changes

I went into 2014 not really knowing what to expect. 2013 had been the culmination of a lot of projects such as the novel, the dive school, some deeper personal stuff, and the year was filled with a new relationship and plenty of adventure to boot. It all wound down for the 2013 Christmas holiday, which felt like the final approach to the home base after a long drawn out air campaign. Beautiful, quiet and unpowered glide. When January came I hit the tarmac with tires screeching and brakes glowing white, determined to slow down or rather consolidate my life a bit and take care of myself. Now, as I’m writing this I’m somewhat thinner, my elbow hurts, I’ve published a comic, I’m nursing a bunch of short stories, I’m soon unemployed and looks like I’m on the verge of the biggest change in my adult life.

Breaking the Surface 2014 – My Direct-To-DVD Sci-Fi Horror Holiday With Underwater Robots

October 13, 2014 · Posted in Adventure!, Diving, Marine & Underwater Science, Science! · Comment

Early October, late evening, pitch dark Croatian countryside. The bus guns its engine and rumbles off along the dark mountain road, leaving me on the bus stop with my backpack and trolley luggage, feeling confused. So, I guess the Split to Biograd na Moru bus doesn’t actually stop at Biograd, as in at the downtown bus station, but somewhere in the outskirts of the town. I check my phone, which is running out of battery fast, reflect for a moment, and turn the data transfer on for long enough to get an approximate direction to where the hotel might be. Well, it’s an interesting start.

Åland on the Rocks 2014 and Stream Ten Demoparty

This May I had the first proper holiday trip since 2011, and the first proper holiday since the summer of 2012. We headed off to do some bouldering in the island of Åland, and back to the mainland for a demo scene party in Tampere, Finland. There was nature, sports, cabin stuff, science, history, art, making art, geekery, partying, geocaching, coding, achievements, learning new stuff, sauna, relaxation… The only thing that could’ve made this 100% perfect would’ve been one day of diving, but let’s leave something for the next one.

Me and the crew, getting ready to climb.
